John 14:1-7
‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling-places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.’ Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.’

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught us.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.
COMMENDATION
The leader continues.
Let us commend our sister/brother name to the mercy of God.
Name, our companion in faith and sister/brother in Christ, we entrust you to God.
Go forth from this world in the love of God who created you; in the mercy of Jesus
Christ who died for you; in the power of the Holy Spirit who strengthens you, at
one with all the faithful, living and departed. May you rest in peace and rise in the
glory of your eternal home, where grief and misery are banished, and light and joy
abide.
Amen.
When death seems near, the leader continues.
Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant name. Acknowledge,
we humbly beseech you, a sheep of your own fold, a lamb of your own flock,
a sinner of your own redeeming. Receive her/him into the arms of your mercy, into
the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints
in light.
Amen.
